Lime plasters

Handcrafted manufacturing or use of bio-based products, materials that allow supports to breathe

Ideal for porous supports like stone, brick, hemp, straw...

Some solutions exist for modern supports (thin plasters)

Recognized properties: antibacterial, humidity regulation, and thermal insulation.

Aesthetic qualities: lime catches the light and brings a sense of warmth to your interior.

Mineral materials offer numerous possibilities for decorative finishes, from the simplest to the most sought-after, smooth and satin, sandy and powdery... Due to its technical and aesthetic properties, lime is traditionally used for exterior and interior plastering. Some examples of traditional finishes:

  • STUC: a fine, marble-powder-based, iron-reinforced plaster with a very smooth appearance. The process of ferrage involves tightening the grains of the material with repeated smoothing.

  • Tadelakt: a technique inspired by Moroccan craftsmanship, (only for supports suitable for lime), impermeable and satin, close to the appearance of polished marble or stone. It requires many steps, from the preparatory layer to the finishing ironing with a stone and black soap.

  • INTONACO: a smooth plaster with fine sand.

  • Sgraffito: an incised and engraved coating to reveal the color beneath, according to the desired design.

  • Textured and artistic finishes: we play with materials for original creations, with material inlays, engravings, colors, gold leaf...

The finishes come in soft, luminous shades obtained with natural pigments, and can be covered with lime patinas or natural latex glazes to achieve stronger shades.

Lime can be combined with clay, plaster, and various fillers depending on the desired finish (sand, pozzolana, marble powder, etc.).

It is possible to protect the finishes with wax or black soap.

Lime requires rigorous preparation of the substrate to allow for good chemical and mechanical adhesion.

Our expertise allows us to work with natural materials for the renovation of old buildings, the creation of decorative plasters, and the creation of artistic textured decorations. Lime, clay, Meudon white, skin glue, paper, sand, brick powder, marble powder... are all materials that allow us to create our plasters, paints, and washes in the workshop.

Colourwashes

Our plasters are custom-made, based on the desired shade and finish:

  • smooth: air lime, water, and pigments

  • sandy: adding marble powder or very fine sand for a more textured effect

  • ferrée (very smooth) : a smooth, multi-layered finish, with varying degrees of smoothness or texture depending on the chosen load, for a fine plaster effect.
